This could be huge for Alcatel-Lucent

Microsoft hit with $1.5 billion patent verdict - I hope companies don't react by using it as an excuse to remove MP3 support and only support DRM lock in solutions.

Gravatar Image1 - Vic and I were talking about this one last night in our meeting!

Gravatar Image2 - Whilst this is bad news for MS and will undoubtly give the anti Redmond mob a bit of a boner, this is potentially bad news for anyone who incorporates MP3 support into their products...Apple being the obvious example. I guess the hope is that Alcatel-Lucent feel that the $1.5 billion is enough of a pay day and will leave everyone else alone...but Apple's dominance of the portable MP3 player market maybe too tempting. On the other hand if they don't you could be forgiven for thinking this had nothing to do with MP3 patient infringment.
