How good is Notes backwards compatibility?

Category
Last night I was going through a few old Zip disks. When I used to work at Lotus, I kept all my presentations in a presentation library template that came with NotesSuite. I stumbled across this database last night and decided to double click on it and see how Notes handled it. Well here's a little video showing how it worked...

As you can see, the db still worked, the embedded Freelance presentations still launched, Notes F/X was still working pulling across the slide titles etc. pretty amazing when you think that was built with Notes v3.2 and most of my slides were over 10 years old. One thing I laughed at was one of the Notes ViP slide, that sure looks like a composite application Oh if you're wondering what the other presentations are, they are:
  • Lotus NotesSuite: An Introduction
  • Lotus NotesSuite: Conclusion
  • 1-2-3 Version Manager
  • An Introduction to Lotus SmartSuite 3.0
  • Lotus Notes F/X
  • Lotus Notes Overview
  • Lotus Notes ViP
  • Lotus NotesSuite Positioning
  • Lotus TestDrive - Part 1
  • Lotus TestDrive - Part 2
  • Lotus TestDrive - Part 3
  • Lotus Word Pro Overview
  • SmartSuite - The only complete solution for Windows desktops

Update: Alan Lepofsky requested the Notes Overview presentation, here it is. It is actually pretty much the same presentation used in 1991 just with updated graphics. It's interesting to remember the client choices that were available back then...It's also interesting to note there is no mention of the internet and very little mention of Notes as a mail platform.

Gravatar Image1 - ViP was so far ahead of it's time. I just wish they would have taken the report generator from that product and embedded it in R4. At least we got LotusScript from it.

Gravatar Image2 - I'd like to see "Lotus Notes Overview"

Gravatar Image3 - I have that database myself Carl and have used it in recent years to demonstrate Notes F/X functionality at conferences. Ugly as sin, but works like a charm.

There was also a Presentation Manager application and Mail Merge Demo database that I helped build that I still use. Maybe I should post them :)
