Time for a stupid, yet scientific research poll

When you make Peanut Butter sandwiches, do you put just Peanut Butter on the sandwich or do you put Butter/Margarine on the bread before the Peanut Butter?

Gravatar Image1 - Wow. I was expecting a different question. "Do you put the peanut butter on one slice and the jelly on the other and slap 'em together, or do you put the peanut butter on one slice, layer the jelly on top, and then cover it with the other slice?"

Gravatar Image2 - Just peanut butter and jelly. Never butter/margerine.

Gravatar Image3 - In answer to the main topic, it depends. I'll put butter on if I have some soft in my butter bell. If I have to get butter straight from the fridge, I'll pass. Spreadability (actually coverage) wins every time.

In answer to @1, on the rare occasion when I do PB&J, I spread the PB on one slice and the J on the other. I have a thing about food mixing, and I can't bring myself to put the jelly on top of the peanut butter like that. eesh.

Gravatar Image4 - Both butter and peanut butter. Very occasionally jam as well.

Gravatar Image5 - I do a nice thick layer of peanut butter on one slice and a tick layer of preserves on the other slice. It makes me cringe when I watch the wife try to spread the jelly on the peanut butter slice.

I just don't understand the whole butter and peanut butter phenomenon. I guess it's along the lines of why I don't do nuttella.

Sean---

Gravatar Image6 - I would have to @3 about the spreadability, but mostly no butter. Chuncky is the only option though.

How about peanut butter, mayonnaise, and lettuce. The lettuce is a must!

Gravatar Image7 - Depending on mood.

Normally butter then peanut butter.

Never had peanut butter and jelly tho, so cannot comment there.

Gravatar Image8 - Just PB&J. I spread PB on one slice and jelly on the other. My wife used to spread a thin layer of PB on both slices and then jelly on one of the slices. This was so that the bread wouldn't get soggy from the jelly...

Gravatar Image9 - Is this a trick question? (A) Only Brits butter the bread when they make a sandwich, even if they're going to put other condiments on it. (B) I have never met a Brit who liked peanut butter. Ergo...

Gravatar Image10 - Usually just PB and Jelly (each on it owns slice). Unless the bread is a little dry, then I get creative and perhaps make a kind of PB&J grill cheese. Butter on the outside, PB&J on the inside and heated on a skillet. As if I haven't made your arteries cringe enough.....my all time favorite in college was a PB, banana, and honey sandwich.....No wonder it took me 3 years to lose my college weight.

Gravatar Image11 - Something is just wrong with PB&J, why spoil good peanut butter?

My next question will have to be Salada Cream and Baked Beans, love it or hate it, or the more regular one, marmit yes, or marmite no

Gravatar Image12 - Butter? Ickkkkk!

Gravatar Image13 - I've always hated peanut butter.

As for Marmite...
1) LOVE it.
2) Did you know that some wiseass at whichever American conglomerate owns it now changed the recipe?

I kid you not. Marmite from recently purchased jars of has a much paler colour than Marmite used to have (it was almost black) and is runny. Very runny. I think this change may have been needed to make the new squeezable Marmite tube possible.

And how American is that? The old glass jar not good enough? They'll be putting it in spray cans next.

Gravatar Image14 - Hate both Peanut butter and Marmite. Best sandwich is a Chip Buttie with plenty of butter (Not those French Fries but a good old proper Potato Chip) and a nice hot mug of tea.

Gravatar Image15 - You Brits are crazy......what the heck is Marmite and Chip Buttie? I'm just glad nobody brought up Goober Grape....what a freaking disaster that stuff is!

Gravatar Image16 - @13 They don't even sell Marmite over here, which makes it even madder.

@14, Thank God you didn't embarras me and tell everyone your favourite sandwich is a sardine sandwich. I have to agree on the chip buttie, but a bacon sarnie with brown sauce is still the best.

Gravatar Image17 - Now if you asked us how we assembled our peanut butter and banana sandwich and if we did or did not use jelly or if we put peanut butter on both slices of bread, THAT would be worth commenting about (crunchy never creamy). Next time please link to the UK translator for us colonialists..
