Back in the air!

Category
This past Friday I had my first refresher lesson. It was great to be back up flying. The weather was warm and a little hazy, but still great to be up and about. I definitely felt some of my skills were rusty , hence the lessons, but overall I felt pretty comfortable, I survived the landing, and any landing you survey can be considered a good landing.

I was flying the Piper Cherokee 180 shown below, except the plane no longer has the wheel fairings (must be an old picture). I changed my mind on going with my old instructor and flight school, and decided upon a flight school just 20 minutes up the road. The petrols costs saved in not driving to the old airfield will actually pay for an hour of the instructors time, so I decided it would be easier and cheaper to get a new one. Jessie hasn't been flying yet, I'll be saving that until I've completed my check ride and am fully comfortable.

A few things have changed since I last flew (pre 9/11), all the planes are now locked tight and secure, it used to be many planes would never have their doors locked, now they have to have their doors locked for regulatory reasons, also everyone is much more concerned with who is around or near airplanes, whereas before no one really paid attention. There are also some small differences in where you can fly etc. Up here, we have to pay close attention to the area around Kennebunk Port, as George Sr, and George Jr, are often in town which creates a whole new level of flight restrictions. You stick to them rigidly unless a) you're an idiot, or b) you want a personal helicopter escort and a visit from the men in black.
