Straight up, I'll admit I am not a parent.

But I seriously doubt if I was one, this would be a big concern for me. Are breasts deadly weapons? Are the evil fembots finally here? Why do some people have such hang-ups with breasts? I say more the merrier. At 8 years old, I probably didn't even notice the breasts in the underwear section of the Kay's catalogue let alone a pair in the newspaper (oh and god bless Page 3 when you hit puberty). Anyway, what is the kid doing reading the paper, they should be out in the fresh air, climbing trees, picking on old grannies, trying to burn stuff or stealing from the Woolworths pick and mix. Please parents, help your kids live normal lives.

LETTER- Paige's breasts too clear

Now where can I find this picture to check how distubing it was...

Gravatar Image1 - I am a parent of three, two of them boys, and I certainly am not terribly worried. I wish people in this country would worry less about nudity and more about violence. I'd much rather my kids were exposed to some bare skin (or inadequately concealed skin in this case) than to murders, but the former is highly restricted and the latter is pretty much available everywhere. Go figure!

Gravatar Image2 - Not that difficult to understand, is it? The chances of your boys impregnating someone when they didn't intend to is much much much higher than them murdering someone, isn't it? What would happen if your 14 year old son fathered a child? (I don't know how old your kids are, just guessing). What's the cost to your son? To you? To the child? To the mother?

Carl - the problem with this attitude is sometimes it's a slippery slope and you have to start somewhere in eliminating what kids are and are not allowed to see.
Put it this way, I have good friends whose 13 year old son has had very little restrictions put on him in this area. They're going to be damned lucky if he doesn't father about 10 kids by age 15!

OTOH, people have a hard time saying "penis" and "vagina" instead of the other words they use. We've all got hang ups some where, eh?

Gravatar Image3 - @2 Wait, are we assuming that seeing breasts leads to pregnancy? I don't buy that connection, the same way I don't buy the connection that playing violent video games leads to violent individuals.

Perhaps seeing breasts would lead to better education, as kids might ask questions, but come on this kid was 8, there little brain probably still associates breasts with a hearty meal.

In Europe, you can go to pretty much any beach and see some healthy women, I don't beleive that leads Europeans to have a higher rate under age pregnancies.

Please avoid using words like "vagina" and "penis" on my blog, an 8 year old might read this just kidding, use them all you want, in context obviously.

Gravatar Image4 - Having brought up 4 children - Carl being one - isn't seeing nude women part of growing up. Even back in the Victorian era it was possible in the UK to view scantily clad women publicly for one penny at amusement arcades.
When we moved to the USA in 1986 we were shocked to discover that we weren't allowed to undress on the beach. Personally I believe the earlier you become familiar with the differences between the sexes the less likely you are of turning out to being a pervert.
I wonder if playing doctors and nurses was ever a child's game in the USA?

Gravatar Image5 - I think my Dad means, we couldn't get changed on the beach. There is no way you'd get me walking around naked on the beach. Mind you if I wanted the beach to myself that would work pretty quickly.

Note from Carl:Josh's link was removed to protect the innocent...

Gravatar Image7 - the word Carl removed looks like... volvo

Gravatar Image8 - @3 - No, seeing breasts doesn't lead to pregnancy. Well, not at 8 years old anyway. Ha!
Seeing breasts might lead to more education, but I this particular letter is about the fact that the magazine portrayed itself as "family-oriented", then has a nude picture of a Playboy model in it. May not seem much, but when that happens you start to question what you've missed in the content.

Yes, playing doctors and nurses was a child's game. There are many who have the attitude that playing this type of stuff earlier increases the chance of your being a pervert. Ha!

I really think thankful that as an American, I've been spared having other people undressing in front of me on a beach. I have no idea why you'd want to do that. I have no idea why you'd want to wear a Speedo, either.

Gravatar Image9 - In the UK you'd have no choice but to change on the beach. Agree on the speedo
