Revenge of the Sith...acting

Category
Was sith a mistype by a dyslexic ?? Rob Novak was kind enough to plan far enough ahead of Admin 2005 to sort out tickets for a group of people to see the opening show of Revenge of the Sith, the 6th film in the future Star Wars DVD boxed set. I have to admit I went in to see this movie with the frame of mind that I knew what was going to happen, not to spoil it for anyone, but I expected Anakin (Hayden Christensen who acts almost as well as Keanu Reeves) to turn to the dark side, get the cute Padme (Natalie Portman - cuter in Closer) pregnant with twins, kill a few Jedi etc. etc. turns out my expectations were right. I'm glad I have seen all 6 movies, but I never felt the last 3 lived up to the quality of the first 3, perhaps some of the roughness of the early effects made it better than the super clean computer generated effects. Some of it's failure to live up though is down to the terrible acting (or poor direction as some of these actors can really act) and equally poor script.

The beginning of the movie was a little too comical in places, and R2D2 had some new capabilities that he never used in the earlier films, which surely he still had them as they were later in time?? I'd give the move 2.5 out of 5, and would have no problem suggesting to wait and see it on DVD.

It's a sci-fi movie. Not that of the Arthur Clarke type, but let's face it, NONE of the Star Wars movies were really deep. It's a good story, not great.

The worst part of this movie is the dialogue, especially between Annakin and Padme. It's downright painful at times, but did you really expect Oscar-level acting and dialogue in a sci-fi movie that's meant to appeal to ALL ages?

My six year old went to it. He put his sweatshirt over his eyes for the ugly parts (Anakin being burned, particuarly, and of couse, when someone was kissing!). I can only guess at what our budget will be for Star Wars legos in the next month.
