Article on IM presence from ZDNetUK

Category
Sadly the author hasn't really done much research for their article The future of presence or interpreted it wrong.
there's no true presence-based email program available to consumers and small businesses. I've actually been berating email software vendors for a while for not creating an easy-to-use option that lets users see if the person who just sent them email is still around to receive a reply or a phone call or an IM.

I know for a fact Outlook Express has had MSN awareness for at least 3 years, both consumer products. Notes had it's first IM awareness in 5.02b, what was that 1998? If I had read this article 3 years ago, I would have thought fair enough, right now companies are already shipping pretty much everything he refers to as the "future".

Gravatar Image1 - Seeing as the IM screencap snippet is Yahoo! Messenger in the article, the author is likely implying that there is no awareness in the consumer-grade, web-based mail arena.

Gravatar Image2 - Hotmail has IM awareness as does Yahoo mail.
