Magic roundabout the film??

Category
In the Metro I keep seeing posters for " Pollux - Le manège enchanté", which is basically the magic roundabout, or for Americans the magic rotary (not sure you ever had the show). The Magic Roundabout was a tv show for kids that can best be described as surreal, mainly because it's creators were either stoned or doing acid. That didn't matter to me as a kid though, or any other kids come to that, it fell somewhere between Jackanory and play school, which was the couple of hours where we were attached firmly to the TV, remember we didn't have many choices of TV channels in Britain so we were all being pretty much brainwashed with the same thing (I hate to think how many hours were spent watching the test picture of a girl with a chalkboard and a teddy waiting for kids TV to start). So does anyone know what this movie is about? Is it meant for kids or adults?

No idea but my wife and kids all want to see it. Time to stock up on popcorn...

Gravatar Image2 - We watched the very first MR TV programme in the National Museum of Photography's library ( in Bradford). My wife and I obviously had good memories of it but it was really awful. The looks on our kids faces as they tried to see any value in it sent us in hysterics however.

From the BBC Website

Kylie Minogue was among the stars who turned out for Sunday's UK premiere of the new film version of children's classic The Magic Roundabout.
The singer provides the voice of Florence in the film.

Robbie Williams, Sir Ian McKellen, Bill Nighy, Joanna Lumley and Tom Baker also help voice the movie, which is released in UK cinemas on 11 February.

Others stars who attended the premiere in London's West End included actress Denise Van Outen and DJ Jo Whiley.

The premiere was held to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.French origins

The original series of The Magic Roundabout was created for French TV in the mid-1960s.

It was adapted into English, with actress Emma Thompson's father Eric creating the programme's storylines and characterisation. The show was broadcast on the BBC from 1965 to 1977.

The new 3-D version hopes to bring the characters to a new generation

The show was revived by Channel 4 in the early 1990s, when all the voices were supplied by actor Nigel Planer, most famous for playing Neil in TV show The Young Ones.

A movie version of Magic Roundabout, called Dougal And The Blue Cat, was released in 1972.

New look

The old favourites of the hit children's television series will be joined by new characters in the film, using computer-generated graphics.

Singer Robbie Williams voices shaggy-haired dog Dougal, while actress Joanna Lumley and actor Sir Ian McKellen provide the voices for Ermintrude the Cow and Zebedee.

Ray Winstone is the voice behind a new character called Soldier Sam.
