I'm sure Microsoft will spin this as Lotus losing share....

IBM's Software group increased its revenue to $3.6 billion, up 5 per cent from last year's third quarter, with revenue for IBM's Tivoli infrastructure software growing 19 per cent and its DB2 database software growing 15 per cent. Revenue from Lotus, IBM's collaboration and messaging software, dropped 6 per cent.

2 - Let's hope IBM realises that Notes/Domino needs some love, ie developers and marketting $$$. I really hope things pick up for them.

3 - I do not think that Microsoft will care and Marketing dollars do not make better products but the joke about the brand-level statement was a good one.

5 - Well I thought this was a joke because IBM itself reported:
[...]We are continuing our product transition from Notes Domino, which declined 6 percent year-to-year, to our new workplace offering which exhibited strong growth both sequentially and year-to-year off a small base.[...]

I am not sure if that statement leaves any space for brand-level interpretation. That is why I thought it was a joke.
