Will America be a safe place the day after the election?

Category
With articles like this already showing how one side is accusing the other of effectively cheating, I am very concerned about how things are going to be the day after the election, where, if we're very lucky a President will have been decided. Why am I scared? Well I think this year, more than even in 2000 there are going to be a large number of people who think the election was stolen from their choice. Most likely the president is going to be decided in a court of law again, as whoever loses is going to be suing someone or some body of government within about 30 seconds of the results being announced.

And to think we in the west lecture other about free elections?

Andrew Pollack keeps raising some good points about healthcare in the US, I personally believe this is something that is going to create a bigger split in America than anything else. Most civilized countries eventually get some form of national health, whilst till offering the option of private health for those who choose it. President Bush believes this is a bad thing, but then he has good health coverage so probably would, but as the numbers of people without health care increases it eventually reaches a breaking point where more and more people will demand health care as a right and not a privilege. America is still a young nation, whilst it often leads the world technically, on social issues, it tends to be a follower...

Gravatar Image1 - - You're right about the election. Sometime in December we might know who's elected, unless there's no doubt, and even then, lawsuits and conspiracy theories will abound. I have no doubt that Florida will screw things up all over again, and be joined by 10 other states with both sides whining and crying about the results.

- Health care. We will never nationalize healthcare, and I'm not sure we should. The reason we will never nationalize healthcare is that it would kill a massive portion of the legal industry. Given that a huge percentage of both parties are made up of, and buddies with, the legal industry, I doubt anything would ever happen that would eliminate the huge settlements the legal industry

Constant lawsuits are not the whole reason costs keep going up, but they're a factor, and they are constantly ignored. Why demonize the legal industry when you can demonize those big, evil corporate HMO's, drug companies, etc. etc. etc.

have a good weekend, Carl.
