XM Radio

Category
Been spending a lot of time in the car lately, driving back and forth to a customer location in South New Jersey. Friday night it took me 10 hours to drive back to New Hampshire. To make the ride more bearable we decided to invest in an XM Radio device. The device itself was a doddle to install in the car and pretty much works as advertised, although you get cut out with tall trees and buildings around you.

What I am a little peeved at though is how XM Radio keeps claiming to be commercial free, yet if you tune into something like CNN or FOX, it's minutes before you're hearing ads for mattresses or magic weight loss tablets.

So I decided to look into the XM claim about commercials a little more, here's what the site says "100% Commercial Free Music", a ha so it's just the music, talk etc isn't covered by the same claim, but it isn't clear, as if you look at their FAQ it says "Does XM have commercials? All of XM Radio's music channels are 100% commercial free. Today's FM stations carry 18 minutes or more commercials per hour.", So again it doesn't claim every channel; is commercial free, just the music channels, but it does it in such a way that it isn't lying but I think it's very misleading. I'm going to send them an email and see what they say. I do like having BBC World Service though, and the ability to have it all the way from New Hampshire to New Jersey is great. It's almost as good as having RDS in England and listening to Radio 4 driving from London to Scotland.
