Sadly I use Outlook everyday for email

Category
We use Outlook against a Domino backend so that we can all eat our own dog food and use Instant TeamMessenger, one of the worst things about Outlook (and there are many) is that it doesn't have very good searching capabilities. Everyday we'll hear someone in the office scream "I hate Outlook" and 9 out of 10 times it's because of searching. You know you've either sent or received a mail, and you even know some of the words in the email but can you find it in Outlook? Hardly ever.

Well a couple of months ago I found a product called X1, which promised to help me find all that I was missing. I knew that there was promise when I saw that some of the orginal folks who worked on Lotus Magellan worked on it. I'm glad to say that this product has made Outlook almost usable! Not only that, if gives me the old Magellan view where I can see the files on my hard drive that are taking up the most space. If you're someone that has a memory that works along the lines of, I remember reading a document that contained such and such, but can never find the document then this product is for you. The nice thing is that just like Magellan, it's quick, start typing the words you're looking for and the docs just start appearing. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to save some time finding things.

Interesting product - I'll look into it.

Curiosity question (and I am in the process of switching to Outlook on an Exchange server) can you not switch back to your Notes client and access the mail db and do a search ??.

Gravatar Image5 - Hi Neil,

I use Outlook as a POP3 client, I found that with Domino if you use POP3 and tell it to leave mail on the server, eventually it starts receiving mail over and over again. So I have to use the option delete mail from server, which means that I then can't search Domino for the date.

When DAMO comes out for Outlook 2003, I'll be sure to use that.
