Nice trip to Boston

Category
I was in Boston today, where I had a few meetings. The first was presenting to the team preparing the redbook on the Domino 6.5.1 companion products. I was actually early, so before I went in I decided to stop by Starbucks to get a cup of tea, whilst in there I bumped into Timothy Kay who is the CTO and founded Conversagent (formerly ActiveBuddy), we didn't have long but we chatted about the state of enterprise IM and also bots. Conversagent are company that hold the patent on "bots" but most off us believe it would not hold up due to prior art. In fact in the conversation he was explaining that ActiveBuddy also applied for a patent on IM archiving 3 years ago which he hopes will be approved, as I had to scoot off I didn't get to tell him there is plenty of prior art for that too, in fact I had a product doing Sametime chat archiving more than 4 years ago.

After presenting the redbook folks I went to visit a large financial institution in Boston, who are a key design partner in a new product we are putting the finishing touches on, I'm glad to say they were really impressed with our progress. The application is a web based application and supports tunneling, so it's always nice to go into a company and even with their strict firewall still be able to load the product and demonstrate it on their own machines without having to get special permission to put your machine on their network etc.
