This month holds the birthday of a very important woman in my life.

Category
Yep my Mum. Her birthday is actually tomorrow the 11th of March, but she'll be up before me reading this blog so I might as well post it now. Well what can I say about my Mum? She grew up in a post war Liverpool, which was a pretty devastated place (hasn't really changed much, sorry John B ) and used to watch an unknown band who later became the Beatles during her lunch times at a place called the cavern. In letters to my Dad she used to tell him about this fantastic band and how she thought they were going to be huge, my Dad would obviously think she was completely nuts.

Well enough about her life story as I'm bound to cock it up and more about why she's very important to me and the rest of the family. As with any parent/child relationship we had our tough moments (typically revolving around my later teen years, I have found living 3500 miles away helps quite a bit) but we got through them, so these are the key observations I have about my Mum and why I love her:
  • My Mum is one of the most talented people I know. For arts and crafts, Martha Stewart is an amateur compared to my Mum. If you needed something sewing or something knitted, my Mum could knock up a really high quality product in no time.
  • My Mum was always there for us, sounds cliche but my Mum worked her arse of looking after us kids, and anyone that thinks stay at home Mums are taking the easy way out have smoked way to much dope. The only time my Mum wasn't there for us was when she'd gone through a car windscreen, so she had a pretty good excuse
  • My Mum has a great sense of humour, our family is pretty open, so telling a dirty joke to the right audience was always ok, my Mum was always the right audience for a good dirty joke.
  • My Mum being a true Scouser has her opinions and you're never likely to change them, but what you see is what you get.
  • My Mum comes from what I would call an older generation of women, if she meets a female friend of mine, my Mum typically ask me with 24hrs "Why don't you ask that girl to marry you, she seems nice", not realizing that in modern times women now have a say in such matters.
  • My Mum would always give us a good chance of winning in a fancy dress contest, although that is hard to believe from the spiderman costume posted previously in this blog
  • My Mum gave me a great understanding for the power of the wooden spoon.
  • My Mum would cut our hair, wait not sure I loved that.
  • My Mum sticks to her word, if she threatens you with JIF if you don't brush your teeth, you better believe she'll use it, yuck
  • My Mum is super talented, did I say that already? She can make wedding dresses, amazing quilts, amazing hardanger, amazing coats, you name it she can make, if there was a degree from the school of hard knocks she would have a PHD. She doesn't believe us when we tell her , but she is super talented.
  • My Mum puts up with me, what else is there to say?

I'm sure my sister and brothers can add to this list...in the mean time, Happy Birthday Mum!!!!

Mandy on the right, kindly held up the birthday message for me. In case you didn't already realised, you can click on the picture on the right to see more.
