Today I was introduced to Orkut

Category
It's one of those social networking websites, all of these sites seem to start off by getting enough details so that anyone at the company that isn't totally trustworthy could steal you identity in no time at all. What I really find interesting about this type of site is what if there are people on there that you want to avoid? Can you mark yourself invisible and therefore defeat the purpose of the site? People can obviously Google you today, but that's a one way process, sometimes you don't want to be reminded of some people you lost contact with, the old nightmare boss for example, or the customer that made your life hell. It becomes awkward when that old boss turns out to be a friend of your friend, so they appear just one connection away again, bringing the nightmares flooding back. Obviously it can also work the other way, seeing someone that you had lost contact with, maybe someone that chose to lose contact with you

In a selfish way even though you don't want to, it sometimes easier pretend someone never existed so life can progress on in it's merry way, what do other people think of systems like Orkut and Friendster? I decided to opt out before I end up getting connected to too many people, it turns out it's much easier to add yourself than remove yourself, so be forewarned.

Gravatar Image1 - Hey, Carl, this is obviously the site for you:

www.dogster.com

I'm putting Pete up there, even though he's a cat. He acts like a dog, so it seems fair.
