I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 to see what issues there are for Sametime

Category

So far, the key one that I have come across is that the popup blocker stops a number of things from working, namely:

  • ST Links incoming messages
  • Instant Meetings
  • Schedulled Meetings

The popup blocker is easy to address

  1. Load Internet Explorer
  2. Select Tools, Internet Options
  3. Click on the Privacy tab
  4. Press the pop-blocker settings button
  5. Type in the wild card for your domain, example *.acme.com and press Add
  6. Click Close and then OK

That addresses the pop-up blocker issue and Sametime Links incoming messages now work, but Instant Meetings still don't work.  To address that issue there is a another setting that needs to be modified.

  1. Load Internet Explorer
  2. Select Tools, Internet Options
  3. Click on the Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down until you see the Security section
  5. In the Security section select "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" - This is required because Sametime meetings are started by a TMP file that containes HTML and Javascript, if you do not allow this content to run, Sametime Instant Meetings will never start.
  6. Click OK

This addesses the issue of Instant Meetings not starting.

Gravatar Image1 - The procedure for addressing pop-up blocking is about a gazillion times easier in Firefox. You just go to the site, then double-click on the block icon in the lower-left corner. Then you can select "allow."

Gravatar Image2 - SP2 does something similar, just easier to describe the steps to allow the whole site as above is what I found when dealing with users.
