Another one to watch out for when you deploy Notes 6.5.1

Category

With the great addition of Instant Messaging presence awareness to Notes 6.5.1 comes a few surprises.   One thing you may notice is that all of a sudden you have a lot of people who appear to be accessing your Sametime server with their notes client, which you may never have had happen before.  In some cases companies have even disabled port 1352 access to the Sametime server apart from other servers.

So if you didn't already know it, be prepared for the IM Component of Notes 6.5.1 having a little chat with your Sametime server on port 1352, which leads to the users showing up as accessing the server when you do a SHOW USERS on the server console.  I'm not sure yet how much impact this has on Sametime servers in large organizations, but it's one to keep an eye on.

Gravatar Image1 - What is amazing is the reason for this... which I think is just poor architecture. The only reason for the connection to the ST server on port 1352 is to ask Domino to provide the FQHN of the Sametime server so that the ST component in the Notes 6.5.1 client can make a connection to that FQHN. We don't allow access in this way which will cause us some real issues.
