My next laptop must have...the next big idea...

Category
As I walked down the aisle of the plane on my way back from Collaboration University Chicago yesterday I noticed something very interesting.  Lots of people using their iPhones to play games, check email etc.  that wasn't what was interesting though, it was that most of the people had their iPhones plugged into the USB socket of their laptop.  It was that they were using the iPhone as some USB device for the PC, they were actually using the PC as an external power source for the iPhone, anyone that will owns an iPhone will testify that if you use as anything other than something to take up space in your pocket, this thing cannot last an entire day without being plugged into be charged, god forbid you use it as a phone or use the WiFi.

So as I walked up and down the aisle,  I decided a factor that will influence my next laptop purchase is whether or not the laptop can send power to the USB port without being powered on.  It seams pointless to launch windows or Panther or siamese or whatever that OS is called just to get power to the USB socket, but that is what was happening up and down the plane.  A simple switch next to the USB port that says "USB Power On/Off" and turns the USB power on or off would be perfect for all these people.  Does anyone know if any Laptop has such a swithc already?  If not I hereby make claim it's my idea, and anyone that uses a name along the lines of USBTravel! or USBPower! (they always have exclamation marks) owes me money  Oh web 2.0 version is USBPwr!

Had great feedback from attendees on the first day.  I only had one session yesterday which was on Sametime 8 and 8.5 toolkits.  Today I have 3 sessions,
* Customizing and Extending Sametime Meeting Centers: 8.0 and 8.5
* Using and Customizing the Sametime 8.5 Web Client
* Sametime Telephony: TCSPI Plugins and Unified Telephony Options
It's been interesting to see many peoples reaction to seeing Sametime 8.5 for the first time.

My odds of seeing England in South Africa increased greatly last night.

For first time in a long long time, England qualified for a World Cup with a couple of games in hand, with their 5-1 win against Croatia.  As it stands right now, the following countries have currently qualified for the 2010 World Cup.

1. Australia
2. Brazil
3. England
4. Ghana
5. Japan
6. Korea DPR
7. Korea Republic
8. Netherlands
9. Paraguay
10. South Africa
11. Spain

So that's 11 slots gone, 21 still to go.  For US readers, the USA helped their qualifying cause by beating Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 last night.

Holy cow, a plane lands on the highway, I've flown this plane!

OK this is a bit close to home.  The plane in these pictures is the plane I passed my flying exam in, it's the plane I flew around Manhattan in, it's the plane I logged about 50 hours in, it's also the plane I've taken numerous friends up in.  It was my favourite plane at the club as it had a GPS.  Glad to see the pilot and passenger are ok.

Plane makes emergency landing on I495 near Boston.
